Qantas Rewards Card
Our friends at BBDO Clemenger needed spots and print work to announce the new NAB Qantas Rewards Signature Card. The twist? They wanted the credit card itself to be the hero of the spot. “Turn our card into a holiday,” they said. Well, they came to the right place. That’s our favorite time of year.
Stop motion for that holiday emotion.
Keeping the credit card front and center, we set out to explore interesting ways to feature it along with a fun narrative to keep the audience engaged.
The client wanted it all to feel as if it was shot in live action, so we leaned heavily on a stop-motion vibe.
We were inspired by the Shugo Tokumaru music video “Katachi,” in which every frame stays behind on screen, stacking on top of each other.
We also love the imperfections inherent in stop motion. There’s a real beauty and verisimilitude that comes with this style of animation. You can feel the hand of the artists in every detail.
Cracking the holiday nut.
We worked closely with BBDO Clemenger on the overall look and feel of the spot to strike that perfect balance between the holiday vignettes and the exciting pace of the stacking cards that built to a satisfying climax.
When we hit upon the idea of having all of the shot transitions happen within 2D animation projected onto 3D animated cards, we instantly broke out the pavlova.
